Manistique Community Treehouse Center
A community-run center for occupational therapy and inclusive education nestled in nature seeks to complete its six-sided treehouse building so it can better serve the community. The center promotes the mental and physical well-being of youth and inclusion of people of all ages and abilities through holistic, hands-on educational programming.
Why It Matters
The centers supports the mental and physical wellbeing of people with disabilities and is inclusive of everyone in the community. The aim is to build self-confidence, collaboration skills, entrepreneurial skills, healthy eating habits and more at a one stop place in nature. No one is turned away who is seeking a place to ‘just be themselves.’
The Impact
“There have been challenges of inclusion of persons with disabilities that I have noticed in my life, that makes me an advocate for persons with disabilities, seniors getting services, and youth having a place to be creative to work on challenges of ADHD, depression and anxiety,” wrote project leader and nominator Tammy Black. “A space that focus on nature and health foods. This community needs a space that focuses holistically on mental and physical well-being.”
