MLK Park renovations
A deteriorated town park is in need of renovations, upscaling, and improvements, as it has been neglected since damage sustained during Hurricane Katrina. A dedicated group of volunteers are seeking to renovate basketball courts and raise funds to install a splash pad, sidewalks, and parking, to make the space a friendly and useful one for people of all ages within the community.
Why It Matters
As the park has deteriorated, so too has the safety it offers the local children. By sprucing it up, Bay St. Louis hopes to reclaim the park and pave the way for youth to enjoy the activities it can offer.
The Impact
Residents of low-income neighborhoods can and should have a safe, welcoming, and healthy environment for youth recreation while also providing a public space for neighbors to engage and build community, regardless of wealth or resources.
