Lowe's stores to serve as official Red Cross donation sites

Company challenges customers to match its million

MOORESVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Lowe's Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW) announced today the company will donate $1 million to support the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which helps the victims of countless crises around the world, including the recent earthquake in Haiti. All 1,700 Lowe's stores will serve as donation centers for the American Red Cross, making it convenient for people who want to help make a difference.

"Millions of people are suffering and have been displaced by the wide-spread destruction of Haiti's recent earthquake," said Robert A. Niblock, Lowe's chairman and CEO. "Among those millions are the families and friends of many of our customers and employees. Lowe's customers have always been extremely generous in responding to disaster relief efforts, so we are asking them to once again partner with us by contributing one dollar at a time to help our international neighbors begin the recovery process."

The American Red Cross has already committed $1 million to the Haiti earthquake, and is releasing tarps, mosquito nets, cooking sets and other supplies from its warehouse in Panama that will be able to meet the immediate needs of 5,000 families in Haiti. In addition, the American Red Cross is deploying six disaster management specialists to the disaster zone to help coordinate relief.

Since partnering with the Red Cross in 1999, Lowe's and its customers have contributed more than $20.1 million for disaster relief.

Donations to the American Red Cross may be made at Lowe's stores, online at www.redcross.org, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
