As part of this partnership, Rebuilding Together will use the grant to complete home repairs for low-income families nationwide. The partnership goal is to complete 100 projects in one year, beginning on April 28 with the following projects: (1) repairing housing for a multigenerational family in Long Island, N.Y.; (2) making universal design home modifications for a family caring for a disabled relative in Orange County, Calif.; and (3) providing basic home repairs for a Hispanic family in Broward County, Fla. The partnership announcement coincides with Rebuilding Together's 19th annual "National Rebuilding Day," a day in which 270,000 volunteers donate time and skills for a variety of repair projects, and kicks off National Volunteer Week.

"We are so pleased to work with a company of Lowe's caliber to bring home modifications and needed repairs to low-income homeowners across the country," said Gary Officer, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "This signifies Lowe's commitment to home improvement and our mission."

Rebuilding Together is one of 26 education projects awarded a grant after Lowe's annual Swing for Charity, a charitable golf event hosted by the company and supported by its vendors. With help from Lowe's employees, Rebuilding Together hopes to increase awareness of the importance of volunteerism and provide quality home modifications to low-income homeowners by incorporating universal design, making homes usable by multiple family members regardless of age, ability or condition.

"This is part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities Lowe's calls home," said Larry D. Stone, chairman of the LCEF. "By providing resources to organizations like Rebuilding Together and encouraging volunteerism, we are supporting a cause important to our customers and employees and helping build a stronger foundation to improve the communities where we do business."
