3 easy ways to add major curb appeal

Mar 19, 2019

Spring (officially) begins March 20! Start the season with a refresh to the front of your home

With the right attention to detail, the outside of your home can make a lasting impression. But is yours leaving a good one? If you’re not sure, it may be time for a front porch pick-me-up! The good news is – it’s easy. Boost your curb appeal with three simple projects you can knock out in just one weekend.

Repaint doors and shutters

Blue-Front-DoorWe can’t say this enough – a fresh coat of paint can work wonders, and now is the perfect time to paint before it gets too hot.
The entry into your home should reflect the essence and personality of what’s inside. Choose a darker hue of paint to evoke boldness and drama, or a lighter hue for a sense of peace and calm. We’re seeing a trend with varying shades of blue – try Valspar Destiny for a lighter look and Valspar Indigo Streamer for a dark, classic color.

Dress up your front porch

Planters – Mix and match different sized planters, and fill them with your favorite varietals of plants and flowers. Don’t be afraid to choose larger containers as statement pieces.

  • Rugs and doormats – Don’t overlook ways to liven up underfoot areas right in front of your home’s grand entrance. Use a doormat for smaller areas and all-weather rugs for more spacious front porches. DIY tip: choose colors that complement your main exterior paint color.
  • Wreaths – Wreaths aren’t just for the holidays – you can use them to celebrate changes in season as well! For spring, we love wreaths that incorporate lots of greenery, flowers and pops of color.

Plant around your mailbox

A little bit of landscaping can go a long way, especially when you add color and texture to the area surrounding your mailbox. You can mulch the planting bed, or create a more natural feel using stones and pebbles. Annuals, perennials, tropicals and shrubbery are all great candidates for mailbox plantings.
