A recent study by the Recycling Partnership found that only 21% of household materials are being recycled, and a whopping 76% of residential recyclables end up in a landfill. To help combat the sorting situation, Lowe's joined the How2Recycle program back in 2021, allowing brands to improve the public's understanding of properly disposing of product packaging. Along with the program, Lowe's committed to having 100% of our in-store private brand packaging to include the How2Recycle label, where space allows, by the end of 2025. Currently, 90% of Lowe's private brands utilize How2Recycle packaging.
The How2Recycle symbol breaks down each package component (like the box, the plastic wrap, or the lid) and tells you how to properly dispose of it. It's a simple step that adds up to a significant impact.
What You Can Do
• Check your packaging. Look for the How2Recycle label next time you shop.
• Follow the instructions. Some items might be recyclable curbside; others may need to be taken to a store drop-off.
• Spread the word. Share what you've learned with family, friends, or coworkers.
• Support brands, like Lowe's, who participate. Whenever you choose products with a How2Recycle label, you support companies that care about transparency and the environment.
Lowe's recently announced that it would take the commitment even further and pledged to have all private brand packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2030.
