We all know the feeling; you’re lounging on the couch after a long day and see a creepy-crawly insect out of the corner of your eye. No need to panic, Lowe’s can help you eliminate and prevent the presence of insects in a natural way. Some of these items you may already have (most likely in your pantry!) and others you may want to head to your local Lowe’s to pick up. Do keep in mind with most of these options, you will likely have to do a sweep a few days after application to make sure you’ve eliminated all evidence of the little buggers.
READY-MADE REPELLENTS
An all-around great bug deterrent, diatomaceous earth (yes, that is its given name) can help with a myriad of insects. Apply a light dusting in areas of concern and this highly effective product will cling to insects that are nesting. This product is considered safe for family and pets, but it’s still best to avoid applying it where it would have direct contact with skin.
This one might make it smell like Christmas in July. Combine water and peppermint oil in a spray bottle and mix, or pick up a premade concoction by Rodent Sheriff. Spray the solution around entry spots such as windows, door frames, sheds or any other place where insects may hide. The strong peppermint odor acts as a repellent.
Stay Away is the first natural pest prevention made solely out of essential oils and plant fiber. The pouch design delivers continuous protection for 30-60 days through a slow release of proven essential oils, keeping pests out of indoor spaces, even in places you can't see or reach.
DIY DETERRENTS
During a certain time of year, finding ants indoors is practically a guarantee. To keep them away from your food prep surfaces try washing countertops, floors, walls, and other surfaces with a mixture of equal parts apple cider vinegar and water. You should see those ants scatter after a few repeat wipe-downs.
A blend of baking soda and sugar is an effective cockroach killer and controls the multiplication of these pests. Sugar acts as a bait to attract cockroaches and the baking soda will eradicate them.
Ripe fruit is one of the best things about summer, but fruit flies are often an unfortunate by-product. Create a simple trap by pouring a thin layer of apple cider vinegar and a squirt or two of liquid dish soap in the bottom of a bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke a few small holes in the top. The holes will lure the flies in but won’t allow them to escape.
