Which Enneagram room design are you?

Jun 03, 2021

Designing a space that perfectly suits your style can be a little daunting. What décor are you drawn to? What does your paint color say about your personality?

If you’re unsure how to make your home, office or backyard say “this is me,” try leaning into something that gives you some insight into what makes you, you. While the Enneagram personality test is just that – a personality test – it might also help you craft the space of your dreams. Each of the nine Enneagram types has distinct personality traits, ranging from the Perfectionist to the Peacemaker. And knowing your “type” can help you better understand how to cater your design style to your character.

Not sure how to turn your personality into a personalized sanctuary? No problem. Lowe’s trend experts help break down each Enneagram type and what colors, décor and designs might be most authentic for you.

TYPE ONE: THE PERFECTIONIST

Known for their highly organized, purposeful and planned ways, Type One’s might find a lot of satisfaction in a home office space that helps them maintain structure. An L-shaped desk to conceal desk supplies, shelving for more storage and maybe best of all, a peel-and-stick dry erase board for copious note-taking or calendar making. Add in a few more desk organizers and maybe some softer (but very rational) décor items and this Type One is ready for work.

TYPE TWO: THE HELPER

Serving others and serving them well is the ultimate goal of a Type Two. So, why not fulfill all your people-pleasing dreams by decking out your kitchen with décor that helps you entertain and serve? Platters for charcuterie boards, serving utensils and fun cone holders for appetizers or desserts. With plenty of seating options, these generous Twos can invite over as many friends as they wish and host them in a space that makes everyone feel loved.

TYPE THREE: THE ACHIEVER

From working to working out, Type Threes can feel their best in a space (or spaces) that help them check off that to-do list. These ambitious types might enjoy a folding desk bike, lamps that can charge their devices, desk gadgets and of course America’s favorite energy source: a Keurig coffee maker. Channel some of your Three energy into patterns and colors that capture your spirit and make you feel productive.

TYPE FOUR: THE INDIVIDUALIST

Let’s face it: Type Fours are known to be the most sensitive of the bunch. So building a space that feels safe and secure is especially important. Try darker colors to suit a deeper mood with a cozy bed and bedding they can retreat to when they need to reflect. Bohemian vibes also might lean into the creative and honest aspects of a Four’s character. Spruce it up with natural and raw décor items and your Four is certain to feel like this room was made just for them.

TYPE FIVE: THE INVESTIGATOR

You don’t have to go far to explore the world around you. And you can soothe your Type Five curiosity just by setting up the right space in your own backyard. Pair your patio set with a few educational items like a telescope and a star chart. Often labeled as independent and innovative, Five’s will thrive in a space where they can think, dream and learn about the world.

TYPE SIX: THE LOYALIST

With a basic need to have security and support, Type Six’s can achieve this in an environment that helps provide actual security and emotional security. This can look like a comfortable living room where they can engage with their friends. Or add a Ring doorbell and blackout curtains for the reassuring feeling of protection. The responsible side of a Six might also get satisfaction out of a programmable thermostat that helps solve a problem before it ever arises.

TYPE SEVEN: THE ENTHUSIAST

Think bright colors and fun activities and you’ve got a place fit for a Type Seven. This playful type will flourish in an outdoor entertaining space that feels like an escape. Forgo the standard patio furniture and opt for something more unique – like a basket chair. Sprinkle in items that make the area feel like a true spontaneous getaway, and the experience-seeking Seven will enjoy it to the fullest (and likely encourage others to join them).

TYPE EIGHT: THE CHALLENGER:

Just as the name suggests, most Type Eights are strong and assertive. That’s why a workshop area where they can dig into their resourceful side might be just what they need. These self-reliant types could get lost (in a good way) with a pegboard full of tools and a work bench. Eights are often perceived as dominating, so a well-organized workspace where they can control the outcome of their projects would be an ideal hang.

TYPE NINE: THE PEACEMAKER

Unsurprisingly, Type Nines are just looking for harmony. Soothing pastel colors and greenery set the stage for a peaceful place where these types can unwind. A yoga studio-inspired room complete with a yoga mat, yoga blocks and essential oils can help Nines relax as they seek peace for themselves and those around them. Also seen as optimistic and supportive, Nine’s might resonate with décor that’s uplifting and positive. Create a space that’s peaceful and purposeful and your Nine is sure to be on board.
