Lowe’s partner, Clearway Energy Group announced that it completed construction and reached commercial operations for Mesquite Star, a 419 megawatt wind farm in Fisher County, Texas. This partnership marks another milestone in Lowe’s commitment to reducing the company’s carbon emissions footprint and achieving its 2030 goal of reducing emissions by 40 percent.
“We are continuously making investments to improve our environmental performance, from energy efficiency in our stores to supporting renewable energy development,” said Chris Cassell, Lowe’s director of corporate sustainability. “The 100MW agreement will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of all 143 Lowe’s stores in Texas.”
In fact, offsetting emissions from these stores is the equivalent of planting seven million trees in the state of Texas.
The agreement with Clearway Energy represents about 25 percent of the wind turbines that make up the Mesquite wind farm development in Fisher County.
“Successfully launching a project like this, at a time like this, demonstrates the durability of this industry even under the most difficult circumstances,” said Craig Cornelius, CEO of Clearway Energy Group. “Mesquite Star will provide clean, affordable wind power in the Lone Star State for decades to come while supporting our customers in meeting their sustainability and clean energy goals.”
Lowe’s proudly delivers products and services that improve customers’ lives every day and has made significant investments to apply that same level of dedication to lessen its impact on the planet. The company previously set targets to reduce its store emissions by 20 percent by 2020 – a goal that was met four years early.
