Hear From Lowe’s 2021 Interns About Their Summer On The Job

Throughout their ten weeks with us, Lowe’s interns complete impactful projects, receive professional mentorship, interact with executives, build relationships with their fellow interns, and so much more. This hands-on experience is a great way to kick off your career — but don’t take it from us. Below, hear some insights and reflections from the Lowe’s internship class of Summer 2021.

Why did you consider Lowe's for your internship? Can you name some of the contributing factors?

Emily Hayes, Supply Chain Intern says "Lowe's was the standout choice for me because of the conversations I had throughout the interview process. Every associate I have met here raves about the teams they work on, the strong family atmosphere, and their passion for the company. "

Marissa Polito, Merchandising Intern, says "When I interviewed with Lowe's, I realized how passionate the employees were and how much they wanted to share their knowledge with someone getting started in the field. At Lowe's, I feel like I fit in and that my word actually makes a difference."

Lynsey Hicks, Accounting intern, says "I considered Lowe's for my internship because their professionalism, military appreciation, and programs in the finance and accounting departments that are designed to help those with less experience."

How is your internship project making a difference for the business?

Jess Dougherty, supply chain intern, says "My project is employee engagement. Having worked in a Lowe's store for two years before my internship, I was in a good position to explore new ways for associates to interact and grow together."

Kevin Donahue, merchandising intern, says "I'm working on solutions for Lowe's to totally transform the customer journey for Outdoor Kitchens. My project's analysis and recommendations will lead to a better process for the customer and stronger partnerships for Lowe's."

Marissa Polito, merchandising intern, says "My internship project is providing recommendations to stakeholders in order to provide customers with the best possible Lowes.com shopping experience. I'm hoping that in my 10 weeks, I can help make every customer feel like Lowe's is there for them, however they choose to shop with us."

What is your favorite part of your internship? Why?

Mubaraka Patanwala, enterprise strategic sourcing intern, says "My favorite parts of my internship are the one-on-ones I've been able to set up with complete strangers. Picking another's brain on their academic background and career path is an incredibly insightful experience."

Clayton Oney, technology intern, says "I have really enjoyed getting to know how Lowe's works — being able to see all the different areas that exist in a company. There's always more than you realize."

Luke Lobotsky, Associate Productivity, Innovation and Mobility intern, says "I've been able to grow as a designer (and as a person) through real-world experiences, where I can leverage my talents for the good of the team and the company. It's an environment where you'll feel motivated and supported in your professional development."

What surprised you most about your internship?

Kaitlin Hill, finance intern, says "One thing that surprised me about the internship is how higher-level managers, directors, or even someone outside of your team will set aside time to talk to an intern. The inclusiveness at Lowe's is amazing, no matter what level or team you are on."

Hunter Hall, Online Merchandising - Business Solutions intern, says "I was cautious about jumping into working with a Fortune 50 corporation, as I had been working with small businesses my whole life. But at Lowe's, I don't feel like a "number" or a "cog in the wheel" for this internship. I feel valued and connected to people — that's huge for me."

Jacquelyn Sierzputowski, merchandising intern, says "What surprised me most was that I was never treated as an "intern". Everyone is respected, and your opinions will be heard. When I did store visits, I was introduced as a Field Merchant, not just an intern. I've always felt valued in my role."

If you had to give one piece of advice to next year's interning class, what would it be?

Lynsey Hicks, accounting intern, says "At the end of the day, write down everything you accomplished for the day and what you plan on accomplishing the next day. This was really helpful when communicating with my manager (especially in a virtual setting) and helps keep your goals on track."

Hunter Hall, Online Merchandising - Business Solutions intern, says "Have something interesting to say about yourself for icebreakers like "two truths and a lie" or "one cool fact about you." Remember to be prepared and professional, but that doesn't mean you need to lose your personality— stand out and be yourself."

Madison Ratledge, merchandising intern, says "Don't be afraid to ask questions, but also trust your gut! You probably know more than you think you do. Don't be afraid to voice your opinion and contribute."
