Celebrating seasonal success stories

Feb 13, 2018

As Lowe's prepares to hire more than 53,000 seasonal workers, the company is also celebrating those employees who started as seasonal workers and have been promoted into new roles.

As Lowe’s gears up for its first National Hiring Day on Feb. 21, the company is also celebrating employees who have become great seasonal success stories. Hundreds of employees who were originally hired as seasonal workers have since been promoted. In fact, about 200 current store managers started as seasonal workers and last year, nearly 40 percent of the company’s seasonal employees transitioned into permanent part-time and full-time roles.

Meet a few of these Seasonal Successes below, and hear why they’re so glad they started their career journey with Lowe’s:

What’s the best part about working for Lowe’s?

“It’s truly my family. I come to work every day and I’ve got my sister, I’ve got my cousin, my Uncle Bob, I’ve got everybody. It’s a very family-like atmosphere.”

How has Lowe’s supported you through your career journey?

“Lowe’s has supported me through my career journey just by helping me develop into a stronger leader. When I started, I was only 19 [years old] with no management experience, so I’ve always had a mentor or someone helping me just giving me that encouragement in my ear.”

What’s been your favorite day on the job?

“It would probably have to be the day I was promoted to Assistant Store Manager. I was currently a Department Manager of appliances and I got a call and the Store Manager was kind of giving me a stern conversation like, ‘I just wanted to talk to you…’, and the next thing you know he’s like, ‘to offer you the position!’. I just started jumping up and down. It was a very exciting time for me because I knew that was something I had been working toward.”

Jim Kelley

  • Started as seasonal worker in Lawn & Garden
  • Now Back End Support Manager
  • Employed with Lowe’s for 3 years

Why is Lowe’s a great place to work?

“It’s enjoyable. It’s not work. You come here, you meet all different kinds of people who are all usually looking for the same thing. Whether it’s lumber, doors, windows, or vacuum cleaners, they’re trying to make their home a better place and that’s what we’re here to do.”

What would surprise other people about working for Lowe’s?

“Something surprising about working for Lowe’s is just the amount of teamwork that goes on here and the support that you get from the company and your superiors.”

What’s been your favorite day on the job?

“My favorite day on the job, believe it or not, was when spring hit full force and we had mulch on sale, $5 for 10, and we loaded mulch all day long. But it was great, seven guys all working together.”
