Stores honor the fallen with a National Moment of Remembrance, decorated parking space commemorations
As another way of saying ‘thank you’ to the military community, Lowe’s is pleased to announce a $4.5 million pledge to military organizations in 2020, furthering its commitment to honor servicemembers and their loved ones every day.
Lowe’s longstanding commitment continues to come to life through a growing roster of military partners and a shared vision, whether it’s safe, affordable housing for veterans, workforce development for the military community or essential supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Below is a roundup of Lowe’s recent work around Military Appreciation Month and upcoming efforts to salute fallen heroes on Memorial Day.
Recent military efforts include:
Memorial Day tributes at Lowe’s stores nationwide with parking space memorials for fallen military and a pause on operations at 3 p.m. for a National Moment of Remembrance. Click through the gallery below to see photos from stores across the U.S.
COVID-19 relief with the USO, including personal protective equipment, mobile unit support, food canteens, hygiene and sanitation for the National Guard and essential military personnel mobilizing during the pandemic.
On-the-ground assistance for transitioning military with MILLIE, funding 300 jobs performed by military SCOUTS, a task services network of military spouses stationed at over 70 installations nationwide.
2,000 Lowe’s gift cards and more than 150 care packages to support the Gary Sinise Foundation and graduates of Snowball Express, a Gary Sinise Foundation program that supports the children of our fallen military heroes and their surviving parent and/or guardian.
5,000 specialized, padded gloves manufactured by Mechanix Wear to protect the hands of those planting flags at gravesites across the country on Memorial Day, including at Arlington National Cemetery.
Lowe’s commitment to safe, affordable housing now extends through Building Homes for Heroes, a nonprofit committed to rebuilding lives and supporting service members injured while on active duty. The organization builds or modifies homes, and gifts them, mortgage-free, to veterans and their families.
As an official partner, Lowe’s now supports the work of The Mission Continues. The group empowers and deploys veteran volunteers alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, increase access to parks and green spaces and foster neighborhood identity in under-resourced communities.
Ongoing partnership with AMVETS, including scholarships and workforce training, helping veterans transition from military service to employment nationwide. AMVETS is the nation's most inclusive congressionally chartered veterans service organization representing the interests of 20 million veterans.
Lowe’s is also a proud partner of Operation Finally Home, Purple Heart Homes and does regional work with Bronze Star Homes and Veterans Bridge Homes. These partnerships are an extension of Lowe’s strategic focus on skilled trades and safe and affordable housing in the military community. To honor the military, Lowe’s offers programs like differential pay during service, a 10% military discount, veteran parking and the option to wear camo vests as a symbol of associates’ service.
