When Robert Lind learned his wife of about nine months entered them to win a Valentine’s Day experience, he wasn’t surprised.
“She kind of signs us up for everything,” Lind laughed. “So, I was just kind of following her lead.”
What was surprising, though, is that the romantic event was taking place right in the lumber aisle of Lowe’s. The “Night of Lowemance” would be complete with a red carpet, fizzy toast and a one-of-a-kind splash-painting date night.
Lind’s wife, Krystal Hale, heard their hometown of New Orleans was one of the select ten cities hosting these events, so she signed up right away.
Then, well, they got lucky.
“We didn’t expect to hear back from it and then like, a week later, they told us we won,” Hale said. “And oh, it was so much fun.”
As a bartender in New Orleans, Lind often finds himself at work on Valentine’s Day. But this year was different in many ways.
It was so much more special to be able to do this together because it was our first one married. And really, the first one we have been able to celebrate together.
The night of celebration will now also serve as decoration for the couple’s home. They’re already debating where to display the abstract splashed and splattered canvas in their shotgun home.
“I’m so pumped to hang up our canvas,” Hale said. “We’re either going to put it in the living room or in the bedroom above the bed.”
And while not everyone understood just how a date night at Lowe’s could be romantic… “I still think most of our family and friends think we went shopping at Lowe’s for Valentine’s Day,” Lind laughed … This couple knows they have memories – and a mural – to prove it.
“I’m so glad we got to do it,” Hale said. “I never would have thought that I would’ve splash-painted, I’ve never done it before. And I’m so glad we got to experience it together.
