Everyone appreciates a good love story, especially around Valentine’s Day. And there are plenty of good ones at Lowe’s.
We asked associates to send us their Lowe’s inspired love stories and per usual, they delivered. Check out a few of the romantic tales below.
Ebony was vacationing with friends in Jamaica in 2001 when she met Raymond, their taxi driver turned de facto tour guide throughout their stay.
“When the vacation was over and it was time to go home, we exchanged contact information in the event I was ever back in Jamaica. However, we did not keep in touch,” Ebony wrote. “Unbeknownst to me, Raymond moved to the United States six years later and started working at Lowe's in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.”
Fast forward to 2018. Ebony started working at Lowe’s in Conyers, Georgia and needed some help from a hardware associate when the improbable happened.
“Who do I run into … Raymond!” Ebony wrote. “He had transferred from Florida to Atlanta in 2011. It had been almost 20 years since we'd seen each other. His reaction was priceless. He just looked at me as if he'd seen a ghost.
“The next time he saw me, he asked for my number and the rest is history.”
Ebony and Raymond have been dating for two-plus years now. As she proudly wrote, “We are still going strong and still at Lowe’s!”
Julia was a sophomore in college working as a cashier in lumber when Justin came to the register. They knew there was a spark and began to see each other but lost touch – until a memorable Virginia blizzard on Valentine’s Day a year later.
Julia sent a friendly "Happy Valentine’s Day" text before going to work at Lowe’s, and that started a “long-awaited” conversation. Later in the day, Julia needed some help and turned to Justin.
“That same night the most massive snowstorm we had seen in quite some time hit while I was at work,” Julia wrote. “I just had a 2-wheel drive sedan and couldn't make it home on my own. He had a 4-wheel drive truck and lived only a half-mile from me. I asked if it would be okay if he drove me home and he gladly agreed.
“He showed up at the store with a rose and a massive smile. We talked all the way to my house like we hadn't ever been apart.”
They haven’t been apart since. Julia and Justin married in the fall of 2016.
“If I hadn't worked at Lowe's, I probably never would have run into him that day and he never could have come to my rescue on that snowy Valentine's night,” Julia wrote. “I'm thankful for our little love story.”
Steve was working in the paint department at Lowe’s in Hermitage, Tennessee when he developed a crush on a cashier named Jennifer in the fall of 1995.
“I had to find a way to get her to notice me or just communicate,” Steve wrote. “I started jokingly telling her that she dropped things just so she would stop and talk. It was corny but it worked.”
Steve and Jennifer were married little more than a year later.
“Jennifer and I have been married 24 years. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary on March 22,” wrote Steve, now a district quality coordinator for Lowe’s in Nashville. “We have two beautiful daughters, both of whom have worked for Lowe’s, and five entertaining grandchildren.
“I tell everyone that Jennifer and I are complete opposites. We do not like the same music, television shows or hobbies but one thing we both agree on is FAMILY. I believe that is what has kept us together both at Lowe’s and home. Lowe’s has been a family to us for 25 years.”
Natasha and Rick were both active store managers in the same southeast district when they first met and fell in love.
“Rick asked me to marry him on July 29, 2014, which happened to be the day of travel to the Region 3 mid-year meeting in Atlanta,” Natasha wrote. “After packing our bags to travel to Atlanta, we first stopped at the courthouse and got married. Once in the car, we called our (district manager) and informed him we were coming as Mr. and Mrs. Brown!”
Natasha and Rick later relocated to stores in Mobile, Alabama.
“As a married couple at Lowe’s, we both carpooled together, lunched together, had days off together,” Natasha wrote. “Most would say that is a lot of togetherness, however I married my best friend who just happens to share the same job and understands the retail life of a store manager at Lowe’s.
“Now retired from Lowe’s after 23 years, Rick is my biggest supporter as I’m continuing my career of 27 years with Lowe’s.”
Back in 2005, Kristen was a seasonal associate in Alaska working in home décor while attending college.
“When I first started my career with Lowe’s, never in a million years did I think I would find a love that would stay with me forever,” Kristen wrote. “I worked at a store that had a night stocking crew. Little did I know that I had made an impression on one of them.”
She noticed a charming stocker named Brandon kept passing her aisle and later came to find out he had been asking around about her. He went so far as to learn her favorite candy – pink Starbursts.
“One night he stopped me at the home décor desk after closing and gave me a bag of pink Starbursts. I instantly gave him my number and told him to call me if he would like,” she wrote. “He won my heart that night.”
It wasn’t long before Kristen and Brandon fell in love and tied the knot.
“At the wedding he wrote the sweetest story about our Starburst start,” Kristen wrote. “We even had Starbursts scattered at the tables for the reception.”
Sadly, Brandon passed away seven years after they were married. But Kristen’s love for him lives on.
“He will always have a special place in my heart. I think about him any time I see power equipment. I chuckle to myself a little,” she wrote. “I love telling our story to anyone who will listen. It helps me keep memories alive as well as his spirit.
“Since I still work at Lowe’s I tend to tell the young couples that I come across, ‘See, you may meet your soulmate here. It could happen.’”
