Hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, intense storms, and flooding; within the past year severe weather events have taken a toll on communities nationwide. Through it all, first responders, volunteers and nonprofits have lived up to their name - the first on the scene, the first to act, the first to help. As community neighbors are encouraged to evacuate and run away from danger, first responders do just the opposite - run toward danger. For that, Lowe's is calling on community members to recognize first responders, volunteers, and nonprofits near and far for the support and sense of safety they give to their community by sharing one million thank yous to these everyday heroes.

The red vest associates in Lowe's store in East Asheville are kicking off the kindness campaign. The store was all but destroyed during Hurricane Helene, and associates were displaced, some only able to return home just weeks ago. As the East Asheville location will reopen its doors in the coming weeks, associates are sharing thanks to the first responders, community volunteers, and nonprofits who helped them in their time of need.

I never thought I would see such devastation in my hometown but after the storm our town was almost unrecognizable.  The efforts that our local fire, police and first responders were beyond anything that I could imagine.  They sacrificed their time away from their families to help support our communities in this time of need.

Jill Gillespie, Scheduling and Staffing Adminstrator

I'd like to thank Lowe’s for its unwavering care and support of this community. Their help was essential in starting the healing, along with first responders, and many, many people and civilians who went to work right away to help. It was all hands-on deck. Disasters have a way of showing us what really matters, that we are all the human race, and we must work together.

Joe Hughes , Outside Lawn and Garden Supervisor

The community has been amazing.  Restaurants and neighbors all emptying their freezers to fill our bellies with food and love. We have proved ourselves to be “Mountain Strong.”

Jim Klingel, Merchandising Sales Associate

I’m grateful for all the support and supplies that were given to not only the employees , but to the community; food, showers and laundry. I’m grateful to the total Asheville community businesses, churches restaurants and the outside resource support from various locations that came to support, help repair and assist in whatever form necessary.

Ann Hunting-Williams , Customer Service Associate

I am truly thankful for the people in our community who go the extra mile to help others, especially the responders and volunteers who are always there when you need them most. Their kindness and support make a big difference and bring us all closer together.

Sam Email , Sales Floor Department Supervisor
