As a Lowe's store manager, Patrick Flaherty got a kick out of the fact that his son wanted to dress up in a red vest for career day, but as a father, it gave him goosebumps.
"To have somebody who looks up to you, who wants to emulate you, who wants to be what you are gives me a lot of pride, and it gives me a lot of pride in our company."
Patrick, a father of three boys and a Lowe's associate for 14 years, says his philosophy for fatherhood and management isn't all that different: "You have to give people a chance to develop and find what they're successful at and what they're good at and make them great at it." When it comes to being a dad, Patrick says it's the great joy of his life to see his sons grow, and being a present parent is the key to connecting with his kids despite a busy career as the store manager of Lowe's of Panama City, FL. He preaches this critical work-life balance to his team and other store managers he mentors, as well.
We have to find a way to take that Lowe's backpack off at the end of the day, go home, be present for our family, and be totally invested in them. Then, when we come back in the morning, we pick that backpack back up, put it back on, and wear it all day again.
Lowe's wishes all the dads and father figures a Happy Father's Day!
