You only turn 100 once. And in 2021, Lowe’s was determined to commemorate its centennial in a big way.
As the company’s year-long birthday bash comes to a close, we’re looking back on the many ways Lowe’s celebrated its rich history, the communities it serves and the people who helped it reach this milestone.
100 HOMETOWNS
For Lowe’s 100th birthday, the company announced a new initiative called 100 Hometowns. The goal? To complete 100 impact projects in communities across the United States that would help rebuild from natural disasters, repair critical housing, restore beloved community centers, revive green spaces and more. The result? An astounding 1.3 million people positively impacted across all 100 projects that spanned 36 states.
We could not have completed this important work without the exceptional effort of our associates, partners and community members, all who have made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many.
SUPER BOWL SURPRISE
Throughout the 100 Hometowns campaign, Lowe’s also partnered with members of the Lowe’s Home Team to complete projects in cities near and dear to their hearts. Now, Lowe’s is celebrating the success of the initiative with a final 101st Lowe’s Hometowns project—and this one will be super. Lowe’s, an official NFL sponsor, will give Super Bowl LVI fans the chance to choose a special bonus 100 Hometowns project in the winning team’s hometown. Lowe’s #HomeTeamsforHomeTown campaign will be unveiled through Lowe’s social channels where fans can weigh in with the winning project revealed after the Super Bowl.
100 MURALS
Local artists across the country also helped Lowe’s celebrate its centennial by designing and creating 100 hand-painted murals, each representing the vibrancy and uniqueness of their own communities.
Each 16x8 mural was inspired by the artist’s hometown and paid tribute to the company’s milestone. The masterpieces were on display in stores for customers and associates to enjoy through the end of the year. You can view images of all 100 murals here and watch some of the artists’ stories on our YouTube channel.
“It’s great that Lowe’s is spotlighting local artists and giving us creative license,” said CHD:WCK!, one of the artists selected to participate. “They wanted the murals to speak to the close interactions Lowe’s store have with their communities. They gave us certain guidelines, like a range of colors we would work within. But at the end of the day, they want this to be about community connections.”
DESIGN OF THE TIMES
Lowe’s also helped customers explore and enjoy the last one hundred years through its unique series: Design of the Times. Partnering with artist and designer behind Plume and Blume, Maurice Harris, Lowe’s took homeowners on a style journey through different decades. Then, inspired by the design trends of a past decade, Harris helped these homeowners makeover spaces that are both stylish and functional. Travel through time and get inspired by your favorite decade by watching the Design of the Time series.
The heart of Lowe’s year-long celebration of its 100th birthday was giving back to the communities that make it so great. Now, the company looks forward to what we can all accomplish together in the future.
Cheers to the next 100.
