Powerful storms swept through the Midwest and South this week, causing severe storms, flooding, and deadly tornadoes leaving a path of destruction across Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mississippi. In the wake of these storms, Lowe's has been deploying help in the form of volunteers and supply-filled totes to communities affected. Over 400 totes have been distributed since the storms hit, and Lowe's associates have been the boots on the ground for clean-up and support for their communities.
One of the communities affected is Des Arc, Missouri. The small town of about 200 people, now reeling after experiencing 130 mph winds and a devastating EF-3 tornado. At least 150 homes and businesses were damaged or completely flattened, with entire neighborhoods leveled. Lowe's District Manager, Christopher Roberts, caught wind of the devastation and, even though the closest Lowe's is over an hour away, immediately knew Lowe's could step in and help. He gathered 40 associates and headed toward the destruction.
"The community was shocked by how much we brought and even more shocked that we had so many folks that were willing just to spend their day in that town and help out."
While Chris and his team are hard at work supporting the community of Des Arc, Lowe's associates in other parts of Missouri, Louisiana and Mississippi are at ground zero of significant destruction in their communities, offering assistance in any way they can.
