Lowe’s and The Nature Conservancy partner for garden beautification project
Sometimes, you just have to do the dirty work.
But a group of 25 volunteers didn’t mind putting in a little elbow grease to bring a community garden back to life. A space that was once rundown and overgrown, restored to a place that would bring life and nourishment to the people who would eventually farm food from it.
The volunteer efforts were organized in celebration of Make a Difference Day this past October. Lowe’s and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) partnered for a garden beautification project at the Growing Together Community Garden in Philadelphia.
The garden provides food for Burmese, Congolese, Rwandan, and Nepali refugees and other community members.
The volunteers came together to perform garden maintenance and general improvements. TNC is also supporting Philadelphia’s Green City, Clean Waters initiative by partnering with private landowners to create and expand green spaces in underserved communities and address stormwater issues. Lowe’s is helping to advance TNC’s efforts through financial support and hands-on volunteers.
