Just days after thousands of Lowe’s associates and volunteers came together in Charlotte, North Carolina, to build beds for children in need, those same beds were already making a difference in Atlantic City.

“We built over 10,000 beds and our chapter, our New Jersey chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace received a hundred beds.” said Sarah Fulton. “Today we’re in Atlantic City and we’re delivering those beds to children who need a bed to sleep on.”

Over just two days, volunteers zigzagged through Atlantic City, braving rain and traffic jams to deliver 54 beds. Their goal was simple and heartfelt: make sure every child on their list had a cozy place to rest their head at night.

It wasn’t until Fulton connected with local schools that the real depth of the need became clear.

“We presented at a local elementary school in March of this year and within that day we had applications for over a hundred beds and they’ve continued to come in,” Fulton said. “Atlantic City has a high need for beds for children.”

For families, the difference is felt right away. It’s more than just a new piece of furniture. It’s a sense of comfort, dignity, and hope.

“I can’t afford a bed. It’s just a bed. And you should be able to afford a bed, but you can’t,” said Suzette Jackson, a bed recipient. “I’m just thankful and blessed that you guys are doing this.”

Kids who received beds couldn’t hide their excitement. For many, it was their first real bed, a milestone that brought big smiles and even bigger dreams.

“I really love it,” one child said. “I’m going to get a good night’s sleep tonight.”

For Lowe’s associates, seeing the beds in place is a reminder that their hard work goes far beyond the bed build. It’s about changing lives, one delivery at a time.

“It’s awesome,” said Gregg Freyer, Lowe’s district manager. “To be able to deliver them and actually put them in people’s homes is awesome. It’s pretty intimate when you walk into someone’s house to actually bring and put a bed in someone’s bedroom,” Freyer said. “So it’s really cool.”

The way these beds moved from build site to bedroom in just days shows what’s possible when a community comes together.

With new requests arriving every week, the work is far from finished. The team is already looking ahead, ready to keep building and delivering where they’re needed most.

“We’ve been invited to several other schools, so I imagine it’s going to continue,” Fulton said.
