Buckets filled by Lowe's volunteers shipped to California to provide immediate relief
Less than 72 hours after Lowe’s employees assembled kits in North Carolina, thousands of natural disaster relief buckets made its way to families affected by the wildfires in California. Two tractor trailers arrived late Friday just in time to for a community event at the Lowe’s in Redding, CA. More than 3,000 buckets were distributed to families and a nearby shelter. The kits contained supplies to help the victims recover. The American Red Cross was also onsite to provide some healthcare services, counseling, and other relief support.
“Many residents of Redding have been evacuated from their homes for over a week now. As families begin to return to their homes, Lowe’s felt it was urgent to get these buckets to the Redding community during these beginning stages of cleanup and rebuilding,” said Quoinesha Jones, Lowe’s community relations.
Store Manager Ian Davis said the event, which provided 1,600 meals prepared by food trucks, was for not only for victims but for first responders as well.
“We are a tight knit community that looks out for each other. This event helps support our community in rebuilding. We have so many companies and families that have stepped up to support everyone affected. The first responders have been amazing and worked tirelessly to make sure they protected as much as they could.”
The wildfires also overwhelmed the Redding store. One employee lost their home and at one point, 50 associates were impacted, “The Chico and Yuba City stores didn’t hesitate to help. I couldn’t be prouder than I am right now about the great company I work for.”
