Muggsy Bogues is coming out of retirement to join the Lowe's Home Team. Participating in his inaugural project for Habitat for Humanity, the 14-year NBA vet laced up his work boots to help build homes for the residents of The Meadows at Plato Price in Charlotte, NC. The project holds a special place in the former Charlotte Hornet's heart, as he's called the city home for over 30 years.
“It's really a special time to be part of Lowe's Home Team. I'm just so honored to be part of this team because of their commitment to the community. They're really focused on uplifting our community, giving homeowners an opportunity to own their own homes and be able to create memories and have a safe haven place where you can create memories.”
It was a special moment for neighborhood resident Jeremy, a fan of the point guard for years; he now has the unique experience of building a house with him.
“It means a lot to me. I never would've even thought I would own a home, being a single dad, I always thought I would live in an apartment. But thanks to Habitat, they made that possible for me to have a home.”
A major supporter and funder of the project, Lowe's says the decision to bring Muggsy to the Home Team roster is a slam dunk, as he joins the likes of NFL stars Travis Kelce and Dak Prescott.
Being a home improvement retailer, this is obviously who we are at our core, and I think being able to give back, that's nowhere more important than here in our hometown of Charlotte. So it'll be able to partner with Muggsy, who's a passionate advocate for community involvement. It's been part of the Charlotte community now for over 30 years since his playing days. It's inspiring to be able to come out here and see that we're able to contribute to the communities with safe, affordable housing and help people realize their dream of home ownership.
With the help of Lowe's and Muggsy, the residents of the Meadows at Plato Price will move into their homes a full year earlier than initially scheduled, a win for the Home Team!
