Lowe’s Red Vests, staff from The Charlotte Hornets, and officials from the Charlotte community of Grier Heights gathered onsite at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grier Heights Park Amphitheater project to celebrate yet another win for the Hornets Legacy Project Powered by Lowe's.

Since its inception in 2016, The Hornets Legacy Project - a partnership between Lowe's and the Charlotte Hornets - has taken aim at improving communities around Charlotte. Starting with local park renovations, they pivoted to a full-court press for community upliftment and zeroed in on the Grier Heights neighborhood in 2021.

Strong communities are central to our mission of making homes better for all. Strong communities are made up of thriving neighborhoods with vibrant spaces like this one where neighbors are proud to stay in their homes and their communities.

Gerardo Soto, Lowe's Vice President, Brand Marketing

Through multiple projects, the Grier Heights Community Center Renovations (2021), the Grier Heights Workforce Development Program (2022), and now the capstone project, the Grier Heights Park Amphitheater Improvements (2023), the impact is felt around the neighborhood that's seen more growth and opportunity for its residents.

The amphitheater enhancement effort has been a slam dunk for all involved, especially the Grier Park neighborhood residents.

As a result of our collaborative efforts, and this was truly a collaborative effort, this performing literary and visual arts mecca will be a space explore and to enjoy movies, poetry, exercise, drum circles, concerts, dance, drama, and much more.

Stacy Brown Price, President of Grier Heights Community Improvement Organization

While the three-year focus on the Grier Heights neighborhood may be at a close, the lasting legacy of collaboration and community will be felt in the area for generations to come.

When you have teams of people and groups to come together, and they've got one total commitment, it's about focusing on you, trying to figure out how to make small increases, small things in the community better. That is how you get to the bigger picture of saying your community has grown and will grow together.

James Jordan, Executive Vice President & Chief Operation Officer at Charlotte Hornets
