Lowe’s honored for commitment to city following Hurricane Harvey
When Joe Ratcliff walked into Houston City Hall on Jan. 23, he thought he was heading to a meeting on home restorations. What happened next caught him completely off guard.
Ratcliff, a Lowe’s ProServices account executive, was escorted into Houston City Council meeting chambers, where Mayor Sylvester Turner was waiting. In front of more than 100 people, including Houston City Council members and other officials, the mayor presented a proclamation declaring Jan. 23 as Lowe’s Day. It was the city’s way of saying “thank you” following Lowe’s response to Hurricane Harvey.
In the days and weeks after the storm, Lowe’s opened its stores’ doors to Houston residents and first responders, providing hot meals and places to sleep. The company donated $500,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and donated more than 25,000 blue buckets filled with critically needed clean up supplies.
“We were suffering so badly for so many things,” Houston Council Member Michael Kubosh said. He recommended a Lowe’s proclamation to the mayor.
Lowe’s teams in Houston continue to support customers in the rebuilding process. The company surprised more than 85 families in Spring, Texas with a pop-up store in November. The store provided a wide range of products needed to help families rebuild – from paint and tools to appliances and home décor.
