Lowe’s and associates prepare to step up after Hurricane Ida

Aug 30, 2021

Downed trees, damaged property and catastrophic flooding. It’s the story across the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana Sunday afternoon.

“We have many team members affected,” said Joshua Lopez, store manager of the Lowe’s of S. Baton Rouge. “My [assistant store manager] has been with the company for 26 years, he called me last night to tell me a 50-foot oak tree fell on his home and I’m hearing more stories about the same issue from team members.”

Dedicated to serving their communities, Lowe’s associates continue to show up for each other and their customers. Even before the storm, Lopez said his team went above and beyond.

“We had team members on Saturday that came in at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 a.m., who worked with hearts of service lifting generators until 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00 o’clock that night to serve the customer,” he said. “This team has a warrior spirit that will not quit serving the community, whether it is pouring down rain or 100 degrees outside. They’ll do it all with a smile for our customers and each other.”

Lowe’s announced Monday it will commit $2 million to help those impacted by Hurricane Ida through partnerships with the American Red Cross, St. Bernard Project and local response efforts.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities devastated by Hurricane Ida,” said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe’s chairman and CEO. “Our stores are continuing to serve their communities when it’s needed most, and this $2 million donation to support our nonprofit partners and Pros will help recovery and rebuilding efforts for months to come. In addition, we are assisting our associates in the hurricane’s path by helping with evacuation expenses, deploying emergency response teams and doubling our company match through our Employee Relief Fund.”

In the coming days and weeks, Lowe’s stores in the hardest-hit areas will host bucket brigade events to distribute free, critically needed cleanup supplies to help residents recover. Another show of support Lopez says his team, and other Lowe’s associates across the Gulf Coast, display every day.

“This team embodies the Louisiana spirit of service to our neighbor, in good times and bad.”
