Lowe’s Heroes build housing for Camp Hope in Houston, TX
Tucked into a quiet northwest corner of Houston, Texas is a community called Camp Hope. This safe place is a refuge of sorts and its mission is to combat the post-traumatic stress experienced by veterans of the United States military and give back to those who have sacrificed so much.
At Camp Hope veterans and their families can find temporary housing and treatment for this disorder through individual and group mentoring sessions provided by the camp.
“Camp Hope is a residential program for combat veterans who are struggling with the unseen wounds of war, specifically, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,” said Camp Hope Director David Maulsby. “We provide peer-to-peer mentoring, complete program, everything is free for them while they are here.
Lowe’s longstanding commitment to supporting the military was on full display as 30 Lowe’s stores within the Houston market came together to build new temporary housing structures to accommodate increased demand at Camp Hope. Veterans receiving treatment from the camp, like U.S. Army Veteran Anthony Muro, say it’s been a critical first step in their recovery journey.

More than 300 Lowe’s Heroes volunteered their time and skills to build the structures and make landscaping upgrades totaling $75,000 worth of product over the course of five renovation days.
“To see them here is to see the family side of Lowe’s,” added Muro. “It’s an overwhelming feeling of security, peace. It’s hope.”
