Lowe’s monitors storm track for Tropical Storm Barry, prepares to respond with supplies and support
As coastal communities brace for the impact of Tropical Storm Barry, Lowe’s continues to closely monitor the track of the storm as well as prepare to assist those who need it most – before, during and after the storm.
Experts predict the storm will grow to a Category 1 hurricane late Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning. What could then be Hurricane Barry is expected to make landfall somewhere between Houston and Mississippi, although the current storm path is still developing.
For residents in the potential impact areas, flooding will likely be the main concern. As much as 16-24 inches of rain could fall in south-central Louisiana, where the storm is expected to make landfall.
Preparing To Respond
Depending on how the storm develops, Lowe’s is prepared to activate its Emergency Command Center in Mooresville, North Carolina. When activated, Command Center employees work around the clock to monitor the potential impact of the storm and, if needed, get critical supplies to stores in those areas. The Command Center works with strategically located distribution facilities in Texas, Georgia and Florida allow Lowe’s to expedite emergency supplies to stores to help customers.
Store Readiness
All Lowe’s stores are equipped with emergency backup generators so they can quickly reopen, when it’s safe, after a storm or power outage. The stores in those coastal communities have essential hurricane supplies such as water, sand, tarps, generators, wet-dry vacs, dehumidifiers, flashlights, batteries, weather radios and first-aid kits.
Aiding Communities
This week, Lowe’s associates will fill 20,000 buckets of disaster relief supplies at company headquarters in Mooresville. Buckets will include essential cleanup supplies, from bleach to gloves, trash bags and more. As the storm approaches, Lowe’s will continue to evaluate the weather, adjust inventory levels and ship emergency supplies as needed to meet the needs of local communities.
