As part of the #HomeforAHome campaign launched during Super Bowl LV, Lowe's donated $100,000 to Rebuilding Together for critical home repairs in the winning team’s city.
Lowe's made good on that promise this week, completing six projects in Tampa Bay's Jackson Heights community. All of the recipients are coping with physical and/or financial hardships. For many, matters were made worse as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The list of tasks included roof replacement, yard cleanup, new flooring, fresh paint and much more.
Lowe's Home Team member and Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin was on site Thursday to lend a hand along with red vests and dozens of volunteers.
Godwin traded in the gloves he uses to catch passes from Tom Brady for a blue Kobalt pair and was there to put the finishing touches of paint on Wessie Brown's home. Brown is a retired woman battling several health issues, but she still manages to volunteer her time in the community. That dedication to helping others really hit home for Godwin.
"A lot of time in youth football, the coaches are volunteers. So they are not getting paid, they are volunteering their time, and in turn, that helped birth this interest for this young kid that ultimately turned into me making it to the NFL and living out my dream," Godwin said. "I see that same potential in helping other people in our communities. You never know what it's going to spark in someone else. I just feel like it's really important to help out."
