This year, forecasters are predicting a neutral to above-average season, with a higher number of named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes expected. When ocean conditions are stable, it can reduce the likelihood of hurricane formation. However, rising sea temperatures in recent years continue to provide a more favorable environment for storms to strengthen even in a neutral year. Regardless, communities along the Gulf Coast, Atlantic seaboard and even inland regions are being urged to prepare early—and stay prepared.

For Lowe’s, hurricane season isn’t just a time to stock up on storm essentials. It’s a time to lean in, get ready and reinforce the systems that help keep customers and communities safe when severe weather hits.

Over the last few months, teams across the company have been working closely with the Lowe’s Command Center to prepare. That effort goes far beyond products on shelves—it’s about staging inventory, readying response teams, donating supplies and keeping stores connected when it matters most.

People First: Teams on Standby to Help

Lowe’s Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) are made up of trained associate volunteers ready to jump into action after a storm hits. These teams help stores reopen, support disaster partners, and lend a hand in neighborhoods that need it.

Giving Back, Right When It’s Needed

Another key part of Lowe’s approach: giving back to communities through its Bucket and Tote Brigades. These ready-to-go kits are stocked with essentials like cleaning supplies, gloves and tarps. They’re built with help from supply chain teams and sent directly to stores, so they’re ready to be donated to first responders and local partners.

Keeping Stores Online—Even If the Power’s Out

Reliable communication during a storm is critical. That’s why Lowe’s IT teams are in the process of outfitting nearly 200 stores and distribution centers with permanent satellite internet. These locations can stay online even when everything else goes dark.

And for stores not on that list? There’s a backup plan—mobile units can be deployed quickly to keep operations running and teams connected.

The Right Products, in the Right Places

In advance of potential storms, Lowe’s has already staged more than 250 truckloads of hurricane-related products across the North and South Divisions. These trucks are packed with supplies tailored to different storm impacts, like:

  • Cleanup gear for inside and outside the home

  • Generators and power essentials for outages

  • Heat relief products like fans, water and shade solutions

Lowe’s has been through countless storms with its communities—and every season, the company strengthens its response. Whether customers are boarding up before a hurricane or picking up the pieces after, Lowe’s is ready to help every step of the way.
