Home Team member, Kansas City Chiefs tight end and founder of Eighty-Seven Running, Travis Kelce supported Operation Breakthrough and the completion of its new learning space, Ignition Lab, in Kansas City earlier this fall as part of Lowe's 100 Hometowns initiative.
The Ignition Lab will expand real world learning opportunities in STEM for high school students to prepare them for work, school, and life after graduation. It’s also a springboard for teens who live in economically depressed, often violent neighborhoods.
"It's really just been everybody working together to try and find new ways to help these kids develop and grow into who they want to be," Kelce said.
More than 700 urban Kansas City children from infants to teenagers come to Operation Breakthrough each weekday for nutritious food, lively learning, health and dental care, therapy and TLC, while their parents work or attend school.
Lowe’s awarded Ignition Lab with a grant that will assist in providing additional opportunities within the already existing green tech program as well as the tools, equipment and volunteers to bring the space to completion.
