The box itself is simple: snacks, a handwritten note, a few small comforts from home.

For Alyssa Rucci, it is also personal. Years ago, a USO care package arrived at a remote base after long days and missed calls. What stayed with them wasn’t just the contents, but the message: You are seen.

Now, Alyssa is back, packing alongside guests and associates as part of this year’s Guest Service Project, taking place at Lowe’s 2026 Store Manager Meeting, aims to assemble 15,000 USO care packages for service members stationed around the world, from the Middle East to ships, submarines and posts on all seven continents.

“Back when I was deployed, getting a USO package like this felt like a little piece of home,” the volunteer said. “You’re tired, you’re far away, and then something shows up that reminds you people still care and haven’t forgotten you.”

After packing 10,000 care packages in an earlier effort, the team raised this year’s goal to 15,000. The work is steady and simple: fill the pouch, add the card, tape the box, stack the pallet.

The project reflects Lowe’s more than 20-year partnership with the USO, which has included programs for military families and investments of more than $12 million in cash and renovations to support USO centers nationwide. In the last year alone, $3.3 million has been directed to the USO through customer round-up donations and additional renovation projects.

For the service members who will open these boxes, each one is meant to carry a message that lasts.

You are seen. You are appreciated. You are not alone.
