When we go to sleep, we climb into bed and for some children that’s not a reality as kids across the US don’t have a bed.

Thanks to a 10-year partnership between Lowe’s and nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace, more kids will be getting a better night’s sleep. Lowe’s associates and their spouses rolled up their sleeves and built more than 100 beds alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace for children in need in Las Vegas, Nev.

“Everybody who has come here today is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts and that’s what Lowe’s is all about. It’s one of their core values to give back and be charitable to everyone, not just the people who come and shop in the stores,” said volunteer Michelle Vance.

The goal of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is to make sure every child in the United States has a bed. Building beds for 10 years, Luke Mickelson, the founder of executive director of Sleep in Heavenly Peace says they’ve built nearly 150,000 beds, a feat Luke says wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for their relationship with Lowe’s.

“We’re super grateful for our partnership with Lowe’s. It really has been the catalyst for us to reach and service so many kids over the past 10 years and we look forward to working with Lowe’s until we reach that one millionth kid,” said Mickelson .

Having a bed goes beyond a good night’s sleep. Mickelson says that what many people take for granted helps is how it also helps kids do better at school and gives them a sense of safety. Going into work at Lowe’s store 1620, store associate Gilbert Fletcher says he sees the need for these beds.

“The need is overwhelming this is a great thing that Lowe’s is doing. I pass the homeless coming to work every morning and it hurts my heart when I see kids out there sleeping on the sidewalk. This is going to help a lot,” said Gilbert Fletcher a merchandising store manager at Lowe’s store 1620.

If you or someone you know has a child that’s in need of a bed, you can visit the Sleep in Heavenly Peace website to fill out an application for one.
