For service members stationed around the world, a small taste of home can help to connect them to the places and loved ones they cherish.

Lowe’s partnered with the USO to pack 8,000 USO “Snack Packs”, a desert tan-colored nylon pouch containing a mixture of treats, snacks and drinks mixes.  It also has a M.O.L.L.E. system on the back of the pouch for attachment on most military-issued gear.

“We have 26,000 veterans who work at Lowes,” said Veteran and SVP of Supply Chain Operations Support, Steve McKalvey. “Lowes and the USO has a strong history of 11 years.

“I used to be overseas and getting a care package brought joy to me, and we are going to bring joy to our troops. Our commitment to our veteran associates here at Lowe’s is that we support them through the BRG and in everything that we do.  We are represented by our vests, but also we are a group that takes care of each other.”

The VET Business Resource Group (BRG) fosters a culture of community that embraces Lowe’s rich military history, inspires engagement and honors the service of veterans and those who support them.

“I think it’s important for companies like Lowe’s to do things like this to help build camaraderie within the Lowe’s community and then extend that out to the teams in the fields” said Susan Chastain, Lowe’s merchandising specialist. “My father-in-law and my uncles served in Vietnam and Korea, and one of my former employees served in the Marines. It is just my honor and pleasure to be supportive of them and their service.”
