As senior vice president, corporate governance and chief compliance officer, Luis Avila is responsible for corporate governance, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate sustainability, enterprise risk management and legal operations. He joined Lowe’s in 2024.

Luis has more than 20 years of legal experience, having served as an attorney in private firms and played key corporate governance, compliance, risk management and legal operations roles as in-house corporate counsel. He joined Lowe’s from Cox Enterprises, where, as vice president, governance & compliance, assistant corporate secretary, he advised on all aspects of governance, compliance and legal team management. Prior to Cox, he spent four years at US Foods, where he served on the executive team as interim general counsel.

Luis earned a Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He serves on the boards of Achieve Atlanta and the Latino Community Fund.
