Covenant House
The Detroit location of a nationwide non-profit that aids young people facing homelessness needs to update the clothes closet and essential goods storage within its emergency services.
Why It Matters
An estimated 17,000 young people in Michigan are facing homelessness. Covenant House immediately meets the basic needs of youth experiencing homelessness through a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention and a safe place to sleep.
The Impact
“At Covenant House Michigan, we believe that all young people facing homelessness deserve unconditional love and absolute respect,” said Covenant House Development Officer Patricia Wojtowicz. “Our clothing closet is a space that each and every new resident that walks through our doors has the opportunity to visit, helping to start them on their journey for success in independence. Many of the young people we serve come to us with only the clothes on their backs. By receiving the Lowe’s 100 Hometowns grant, we will be able to update our clothing closet to help us better maximize the limited space we have, as well as provide a welcoming environment so our residents can feel that sense of self again."
