Insight Housing has operated for over 20 years as a supportive housing community in South Berkeley. Through Lowe's Hometowns, two residences will be repaired, including replacing the roofs and a building a new laundry room. The outdoor courtyard will also be upgraded with seating, landscaping and new gates to help create an inviting, safe and dignified environment to the individuals they serve.

Highlanders Boxing Club

Highlanders Boxing Club is a crucial part of their neighborhood and continues to see even more youth joining their programs. The Lowe's Hometowns project will help add a prefabricated building to the back of their existing building to expand their programming space. New flooring will be added to the existing building as well. The club's expanded community space will allow the organization to empower even more youth and show them what is possible.

Through Lowe's Hometowns, Eden Housing Resident Services will receive a new community garden at Faith Manor and Tennyson Garden apartments, an affordable housing community in Hayward California. Upgrades to their outdoor areas will include new garden beds, weed barrier, benches, irrigation and pea gravel throughout the site. The garden area will provide youth enrichment as a part of their after-school program and bring the community together.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin serves thousands of youth every year through evidence-based programming that empowers kids to become healthy, caring and responsible citizens. The Lowe's Hometowns project will remodel the current bathrooms to be single stall restrooms to increase privacy, health and safety.

The Salvation Army Chico

Each year this Salvation Army location provides more than 18,250 nights of shelter and more than 54,750 meals to men and women seeking to overcome substance dependance and abuse. This project will completely remodel two bathrooms that are shared by all residents to transform the facility used by so many into a fresh space.

Jamison Children’s Center

The Jamison Children’s Center is a safe space for victims of violence, neglect, exploitation, physical, and sexual abuse. The Lowe’s Hometowns grant will be used to install a shade structure over the basketball court and outdoor area at the center, which is often too hot to play on in the summer months. It will also allow other outside activities to be held for the children at the center, such as an ice cream social, arts and crafts, birthday parties, and more.

Growing Roots

The Growing Roots Garden will become a place to grow and learn for the students of Emerson Middle School. A place to gather and learn about health, nutrition and the benefits that connecting with nature can have on stress. With 96% of students qualifying for the free or reduced-price lunch program, the outdoor space will put an emphasis on outdoor activities such as participating in the school garden and consuming nutritious foods grown by the students.

This outdoor play area for the kids at the West Fresno Boys & Girls Club will be built in partnership with Triple Play, a program that promotes health and wellness by teaching kids how eating smart, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle. Lighting, fencing and a community garden will be added to this space to make a safe place for youth to engage outside.

Anthesis focuses on job readiness, work training and skills development. They would like to add a mural to commemorate the participants, volunteers and donors who help keep the organization functioning and changing lives. The project would also include new ceiling tiles, shelving for donations, resurfacing its parking lot, updating lighting and repainting the exterior building.
