The Grand Caillou/Dulac Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw, Inc. has served the community since 2014. The Lowe’s Community Impact Grant will provide the necessary funding to place the playground at the Community Outreach Program Office (COPO) which will contribute to bringing children and families together in a safe environment that supports everyday interaction and the rebuilding of cultural continuity.

St. Roch Community Garden is dedicated to increasing food access, environmental education, and sustainable agriculture in New Orleans. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the organization will install two additional shipping containers, build a rooftop greenhouse, implement a rainwater collection system, and enhance security with fencing and vertical growing trellises. These improvements will expand the ability to provide fresh produce to local families, offer hands-on learning opportunities for youth, and create a welcoming gathering space for community events and workshops.

Common Ground Relief is a boots-on-the-ground community organization that has worked to address the impacts of coastal land loss in southeast Louisiana for 25 years. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, Common Ground Relief will enhance its Native Plant Nursery, including repairing and expanding exterior fencing, installing a wheelchair-accessible greenhouse and varied-height seating and garden beds, and laying accessible pathways.

Hope Extreme provides essential services such as youth programs, support for unsheltered individuals and assistance with food and hygiene needs. The Lowe's Hometowns project will help construct a park and community garden in a current vacant lot. The garden and park will include a new fence, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a basketball halfcourt.

For more than 20 years, VIET has served non-English speaking residents in New Orleans. From Hurricane Katrina through the pandemic, VIET supports the community with services from food distribution events to access to vaccines. This project will repair windows and doors damaged by intruders and clear trees damaged by Hurricane Ida.

Oasis a Safe Haven is creating social change through empowerment and support for victims of domestic violence and assault. Mothers and children will be supported with an upgraded children's area and education building, new landscaping and outdoor playground equipment.

Lowernine.org is dedicated to the long-term recovery of the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. To further its mission and enhance its capacity, lowernine.org is building a sustainable work-live headquarters in the L9W. The first floor will provide workspace, multi-functional education, gathering and community spaces for lowernine.org, partner nonprofits, and community members. The upper two levels will provide year-round, well-equipped, modern housing where visiting volunteers can live safely and comfortably, receive good meals and medical care, and experience a sense of community.

Shreveport Green is dedicated to promoting a healthy, sustainable, and economically vital community through public outreach, community enhancement, and a specific respect for the natural and built environment.The project includes building a gazebo on the site to host dinners, presentations and demonstrations, as well as provide a respite area for volunteers. Plans also include adding a rain barrel collection system, some benches, a ceiling fan and the wiring for both fan and lights.

This project from focuses on playground safety for multiple reasons. The existing playground is located across from a busy street and next to both fire and police department entrances to the Municipal Building. Children must cross a busy street to enter the playground, and police and fire department emergency vehicles continuously come and go from the complex for emergency calls , which adds to the dangerous conditions. In addition, the playground is not ADA compliant or accessible, and it lacks proper fall protection surfacing under the playground equipment.

A local grocery business in a community still struggling to recover from Hurricane Katrina seeks to create an area on its property where people of all ages in the community can come to take advantage of free internet access, enabling them to complete tasks and school assignments in a safe congregational space.
