Bowie High School is dedicated to fostering a supportive educational environment for students facing significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Through Lowe’s Community Impact Grant, the High School will revitalize its support space by replacing aged carpet and installing comfortable modular seating, a therapeutic group table, organizational shelving, and a calming aquarium. These enhancements will provide a therapeutic sanctuary that empowers students to manage difficult emotions, ultimately reducing classroom avoidance and promoting a safer, more inclusive school community.

In rural Maryland, three local non-profit community organizations – Our Town Theatre, the Mountain Laurel Garden Club and Community Works Garrett County – are partnering together on a project to benefit the community. With the Lowe’s Community Impact Grant, the organizations will renovate and restore the Jane Avery Memorial Garden - which was intended to honor the lives of children who died too soon. These renovations will make the Memorial Garden a welcome retreat for family and community members.

The Salvation Army’s Women and Children’s Shelter needs some tender loving care. Through the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the shelter will  receive much-needed attention including new flooring throughout, repairs to the interior walls, including priming and preparing the walls for a fresh coat of paint as well as additional enhancements. These renovations will significantly enhance the shelter's ambiance to provide a homelike feel.

For nearly 100 years, Easterseals has been an indispensable resource for children, adults, families and veterans living and thriving with disabilities in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The Lowe's Hometowns project will refurbish a child development center with a renovated kitchen, including freshly painted walls, doors and baseboards throughout. New countertops and backsplash, stairs, posts, handrails and a refinished wall in the main area will make this an enriching space, expanding opportunities for people across the lifespan of their community.

Three Oaks Center is a shelter that provides safety and protection, especially during the colder months, for homeless individuals. Through Lowe's Hometowns, two of the facility's bathrooms will be remodeled to be more accessible, updates will be made to the washer and dryer facility, as well as a remodel of a shared office suite. These improved spaces will further the organization's mission of serving individuals with respect and dignity.

For pet owners who are experiencing financial difficulties, the Human Society of Charles County is a vital resource. A new pet holding space with new flooring, new washers and dryers, fresh paint and an education and exercise training barn will streamline adoptions and give more room to these animals who have been separated from their families. It will make the shelter healthier for the animals, staff, and volunteers.

Deep Roots has a mission to encourage the appreciation, conservation and use of native plants in the heartland through educating, collaborating, and facilitating the planting of regenerative native landscapes that are essential for a healthy planet. This project entails enclosing a pavilion for year round use by children and their families.

Parity Baltimore is an equitable development company that acquires and rehabilitates abandoned properties by the block to create affordable home ownership opportunities. Their project entails renovating a vacant building to create permanent affordable housing for existing community members. The property is currently established as a three-unit building.

The United Way of Central Maryland seeks to transform its Wi-Fi hotspot locations into safe, accessible Community Technology Hubs. These hubs will be ADA compliant outdoor spaces where residents of all ages and abilities can safely gather to access high-speed Internet, engage with their neighbors and receive services. These hubs will support a range of needs, from children doing homework, parents applying for jobs or working, residents accessing telehealth services or families reconnecting with relatives via Zoom calls.

A retreat center that serves wounded warriors/veterans experiencing PTSD, their families, and caregivers as they reintegrate into society is seeking assistance in modifying structures on its property to make them accessible for individuals with mobility disabilities so it can better serve the area’s veterans. Facility repairs and updates are also needed to better serve the veteran retreat guests.
