Hero’s and SHero’s Corner provides a safe, sober, trauma-informed drop-in center in Kentwood, Michigan, where veterans and their families across West Michigan can access peer support, mental health recovery resources, meals, workforce readiness, outreach programming, and community connection. With the Lowe’s Community Impact Grant, the organization will renovate its 7,500-square-foot facility.
Founded in 1978, First Step is the largest non-profit providing comprehensive services to survivors of intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault in Wayne County, Michigan. With the Lowe's Community Impact Grant, the residential program will complete updates to the laundry room and client suites. These renovations will expand the longevity of the residential suites and create safe, welcoming living spaces for families and individuals fleeing domestic violence.
Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team's (MCREST ) mission is to provide homeless and displaced individuals the opportunity for a successful transition to independence. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, MCREST will renovate an area of their current shelter into a 24-bed men’s shelter by completing interior demolition, installing new flooring and paint, upgrading bathrooms, and assembling beds and furnishings.
Peace Tree Parks began with a mission to increase resident's access to fresh produce. The inspiration behind this project is introducing "Agriculture Technology" to the urban farming scene in Detroit and serve as a hub for agriculture and STEM education. The Lowe's Hometowns project includes construction of the Hybrid Market, including building a pavilion, a shipping container kitchen and landscaping.
Brilliant Detroit's expansion to Pontiac was born from a need for equitable, evidence-based, high-quality educational opportunities for children. Through the Lowe's Hometowns grant, a newly acquired residential home will be transformed into a community hub with a front porch, new roof, exterior doors, front steps, kitchen updates, paint, new windows, refreshed basement, updated electrical, plumbing and HVAC. This space will help even more children to achieve higher reading levels, setting them on a path to early achievement.
USO Camp Grayling provides a comfortable recreational space for service members at Camp Grayling, the largest National Guard training facility in the U.S. This project will renovate the community center and allow service members an environment for games, events and entertainment, as well as wi-fi service to connect with their families at home.
The Salvation Army of Marquette County will update its food pantry and kitchen areas and create a safe after-school center where youth can focus on schoolwork and community. With food insecurity and a lack of after school programming, this project will address two pressing issues for the community of Marquette.
The Ruth Peterson Senior Center supports many local seniors who live with severe income restraints. By renovating and updating the kitchen, the center will be able to restore food service and help alleviate many residents’ struggle to find enough nutritious food to eat.
The historic Friends of Four Star Theatre is being converted into a world class multi-use community arts venue. The theatre's main floor needs some essential enhancements to transform the experience of those who are visiting. Through the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, entrances will be improved, ceilings will be finished in the lobby and existing bathrooms, and lobby flooring will be installed.
Aunti Na's Village is a community development organization that purchases abandoned homes and vacant lots, then transforms them into vibrant community centers, complete with outreach programs. The organizations seeks to gut and renovate its Nutrition House, which supports the organizations food-related programming.
