Through the Lowe’s Community Impact Grant, Rhode Island Women in Trades Skills will renovate a historic carriage house into the Rhode Island Women in the Trades Skilled Trades Training Center, which will include a hands-on learning space and a community toolbox that provides access to tools equipment and training resources. The center will strengthen workforce development by preparing women for apprenticeships union careers and construction jobs that provide family sustaining wages while preserving community history.

The Town of Cumberland’s Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) has a 50+ year history of commitment to providing exceptional emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of the Town of Cumberland, Rhode Island. The Lowe’s Hometown grant will provide funding to insure a safe, comfortable, and functional environment to support its 24/7 staff. A new mini-split system, upgraded flooring, and the improvements to the training area will insure our team stays prepared and resilient to serve the community for years to come.

The Kent County YMCA is committed to strengthening the community through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the YMCA will renovate its indoor and outdoor spaces, including replacing lobby and gym flooring, updating classroom wall panels, painting the building, repairing pavilion roofs, replacing amphitheater floorboards, and adding a new activity space.

Operation Stand Down Rhode Island provides services and support for homeless and at-risk veterans. Through Lowe's Hometowns, critical repairs such as leveling and waterproofing the basement to address flooding issues, as well as replacing the roof, gutters and damaged siding will all be completed. Storage and a new door will also be added.

The Sojourner House Drop-in Center connects survivors of abuse with safe housing, emotional counseling and life-saving services. The Lowe's Hometowns project will complete a basement and replace front steps to make the space accessible to clients for support services. The renovation will include reconfiguring walls, renovating a bathroom, repairing windows and adding new ceiling tiles, lighting, flooring and paint.

Central Falls Phillips Street Community Garden aims to create a beautiful, Zen-like garden with equipment for residents. The project would include removal of debris and junk to create a new space with garden furniture, chess tables, concrete seats, garden beds, new plants and more.

A learning center in a racially, ethnically, and economically diverse area that has been serving the community for more than two decades wishes to continue to do so, but it needs critical repairs, improvements and beautifications to its main facility. Weather damage and time have taken a toll on the building. With the improvements, the center will be able to continue to serve low-to-moderate income families and a large BIPOC population providing before- and after-school and summer programming, supplemental youth services, and adult education courses.
